Cavan 1-15 Galway 0-10
Cavan captured the Gaelic Masters Association Spirit Cup by defeating Galway in Drumlish on Saturday. The Fr Manning club grounds were in fantastic condition and weather conditions were perfect for good football.
Cavan raced into a 3 point lead after 3mins with points from Joe Sheridan, Colm Reilly (Free) and Michael McGovern. Galway found their rhythm and after 12mins had equalised with 3 frees. On 13mins a good run by Anthony Brady pointed to put Cavan back in the lead. Galway put Cavan under pressure for the next 6mins but didn't capitalise. On 19mins Declan Beard thought he had won a penalty only to the dismay of the Cavan contingent the ref gave a free out. A long distance point on 20mins from Joe Sheridan put Cavan two up, seven mins later Michael McGovern was fouled and Colm Reilly slotted over the free. One min later Anthony Brady surged through the Galway rearguard and fisted over to put the Breffni men 4 up. Cavan's purple patch continued in the 29th min when Shane McArarney was fouled, his long ball found Stephen McGovern on the edge of the square, his shot clipped the crossbar and raised the white flag. Just before half time Tomas Leonard carried the ball 60m, sent a long ball to Joe Sheridan who fed the incoming Stephen McGovern for his 2nd point.

Half Time Cavan 0-9 Galway 0-3
In the first min of the second half M McGovern pointed from free, Galway responded with two frees to leave 5 in it after 6mins. Two excellent points from Tomas Leonard in the 38th and 40th mins extended the lead. Again Galway came back with two points but a Joe Sheridan free restored Cavan's lead to 6. By the 24th min two frees from the Tribesmen left 4 in it. In one of the best moves of the game long ball from defence from Keith Fannin found Joe Sheridan who's crossfield kick was latched onto by Anthony Brady who released Michael McGovern for a lovely score. McGovern scored again with 3mins to go. In the 59th min a Galway free left 5 in it but as the game crept into injury time a long delivery by Fannin was punched to the net by Joe Sheridan to seal the victory.
Cavan Captain Declan Beard lifted the Spirit Cup from Masters Chairman John Pat Sheridan with Joe Sheridan picking up the man of the match award.
